The ‘World’s Hairiest Girl’ Has Shaved Her Face And Is Happily Married

Getting a trophy from Guinness Book of World Records is a crowning moment for everybody. After all, you have accomplished a feat which no one else could. But what if it was awarded to you for a disadvantageous trait? This is what Sumatra Susuphan, a girl from Bangkok, Thailand, has to endure. She was labeled as the world’s hairiest person in 2010. But there is a twist to this tale –

1. She Suffers From A Rare Congenital Skin Disease

Sumatra Susuphan was born with Ambras Syndrome, a form of hypertrichosis that causes excessive body-hair growth, which is also known as Werewolf Syndrome. Her face is covered in hair and she more or less resembles a primate who has escaped the jungle. As a result of her disorder, she was ostracized from the society.

2. She has the most loving and supportive family

Despite her different appearance and social isolation, Sumatra wasn’t abandoned by her parents. They cared for her more than they cared for her sister. And no, her sister wasn’t jealous of all the parental attention she was getting. She also showered her love selflessly on her sister. This, in turn, boosted Sumatra’s confidence.

3. Doctors told her parents that laser treatment might work

Doctors had recommended the Susuphan family that Sumatra should undergo a laser treatment. Unfortunately, even after having the laser treatment, her facial hair growth didn’t stop. Gradually, as she became older, she stopped bothering about her disorder. She came out of her shell started making more friends. Life became normal for her and she wasn’t an object of mockery for people any more.

4. Sumatra Considers Her Disorder To Be A Rare Gift

There are only 50 people in this world who suffers from the same disease. And because it’s so rare, there is no proper treatment for it. Sumatra took this rarity as a special gift and wasn’t remorseful. She began living life to the fullest. She was just like any other kid of her age. When people saw she was not pensive, they changed their attitude towards her and even consider her as an inspiration.

5. Sumatra finally shaved her faced for a special reason.

Sumatra started shaving her excess hair growth in her body. But that was only for avoiding physical discomfort she had to experience while wearing clothes. When she was younger, she was bullied by other children for the hair on her face. She was called many names, but she decided not to shave her facial hair. However, she was about to change her decision, thanks to her inner feelings.

6. She found love at a young age and now she is married to him.

When she was at the tender age of 17, she met the love of her life. Although she was quite young, she was clear that this was the very person whom she would spend the rest of her life with. With strong determination and support from her family and friends, she took the marital plunge and tied the knot.

7. The couple looks very cute and genuinely happy with each other.

It’s not all about the appearances or earthly possessions that matters the most in somebody’s life. Being content with one’s own life what makes us a real person. It is not beauty, or money or success what makes you stand out in the world. It’s you inner confidence and kindness that sets you apart from the ordinary. The young couple looks happy and we all hope that they lead a happy married life together.

8. Her story is indeed very inspiring after all

Sumatra had to overcome a lot of adversities in her life. She could have been self-reproachful and ended her life drudgery and isolation. Instead, she chose to fight back and always counted her blessings. This helped her to enjoy what she had received. Once you realize how important and special your life is, you do not care what the world thinks about you.

9. The Role Of Her Family Is Pivotal

The entire Susuphan family and her husband have supported Sumatra just when she needed. This is extremely important. If your family is by your side, then you can clear any hurdle. Think about what you mean to them and what they mean to you. Don’t be bogged down by those who don’t care about you.

10. Life Moves On And It Has Definitely Moved Ahead For Sumatra

Whatever be your circumstances, one should remember that life does not stop for anybody. It moves on and we should also move forward with it. Neither are sorrows permanent fixtures of anybody’s life, nor are the joys. Both these things come and go. Sumatra had overcome pain earlier in her life and now she is reaping all the joys. She is the proud mother of a 5-year old boy and is happily settled down.
