Some Say Mom’s Punishment For Bullying Step Daughter Went Way Too Far

There are many parents all around the world who feel the need to punish their children when they want to teach them a lesson. This is a story of one such mother who wanted to stop her step daughter from bullying other children and decided to punish her. However, there are many people who believe that she went too far. Read on to find the entire story.

Trying To Become A Good Parent

The woman of the story was under a lot of stress and wanted to educate her child on good manners. She did not want her child to grow up to be a mean girl. This was her priority and she decided to ensure that her daughter stopped bullying others.

The Child Who Was Once Incredible

Before the incident, the little girl, Kaylee, was quite an incredible child. She was a very docile child who was just as humble. On one hand, she was getting straight A’s in all her classes while on the other, she was an incredible soccer player as well. Everything changed with time and the 11-year old was an innocent girl anymore.

The Love For Fashion

As she grew up, Kaylee found out that she was really into fashion. Even at the young age, she was pulling off some pretty fashionable outfits. When she was in the 4th grade, she was already dreaming of becoming a fashionista. While everyone was focused on her future career in fashion, she was becoming a judgemental person, focusing on what others were wearing.

The Incident

One day, Kaylee’s step mother, Ally, got an email from Kaylee’s school. This email took Ally by surprise and there was some trouble at her school. The 11-year old was apparently bullying a girl in school because of her clothes, calling her “sleazy” and “ugly”. Things got so bad that the girl that Kaylee had been bullying had stopped coming to the class. Ally was quite angry at her step daughter and decided to teach her a lesson.

Ally Tried Talking To Her

Even though Kaylee was in good spirits, she was young and naive and did not understand how much her words could hurt others. It could be because she was hanging out with other girls who liked to bully others. Ally sat Kaylee down and decided to have a nice chat about kindness and empathy. While it seemed like Kaylee was heeding her mother’s advice, it turns out that she was only pretending to listen.

The Second Call From School

A few days after Ally had sat Kaylee down, she received another phone call from Kaylee’s school saying that she was still bullying one of her classmates. Ally was considering what to do with Kaylee as she had exhausted all options. She was re-considering her parenting skills and decided to teach the little girl a lesson.

An Unconventional Idea

Ally informed Kaylee that they would be going on a little trip and they would do some shopping as well. Kaylee was quite excited for the trip but it was not what she had been expecting. Ally took Kaylee to a thrift store and the little girl was not as excited because all she saw were strange things. However, since she was getting new clothes, she was still happy.

The Ugly Fashion

Even though Kaylee was allowed total freedom to choose the clothes that she wanted, she was not happy. She found all the clothes to be strange and ugly and each time she said that a clothing was ugly, Ally would put it in the shopping cart. Ally purchased all the ugly clothing and Kaylee slowly saw what was going on.

The Next Step

Ally explained to Kaylee what would happen next. Kaylee would have to wear all the “ugly” clothes to school one by one. Kaylee begged her mother not to do so but her words were falling on deaf ears. Ally had made up her mind and Kaylee would have to put herself into her classmate’s shoes. However, it turned out that Ally had not learned her lesson.

What Happened At School

Kaylee was no longer the fashionista in her class. None of the other children had mercy on her and everyone made fun of her and the clothes that she wore. She began to wonder why people were doing so and thought that underneath all the ugly clothes, she was a normal person. She understood the power of words and apologised to the girl. While many of the parents thought that it was a good punishment, others thought that Ally had gone too far.

It Went Viral

Once the story went viral, everyone had their own opinion and judgement. Many thought that the punishment was very creative and appreciated the lesson that Ally taught Kaylee. “This is a great example other parents can glean ideas from for child training and building good character in their young ones,” said one Facebook commenter.

There Were Some Who Disagreed

There were some others who did not think that Ally was a good parent and that she had taken things too far. They thought that she should have discussed the idea with her rather than be so cruel. “Parents who think they can teach their children a lesson by using shame, humiliation, or violence are wrong.”

The Words Of An Expert

Neuroscientist Dr. Jennifer Leigh too thought that Ally had taken things too far. She said that children need to feel safe and secure with their family and should be able to trust their parents for a better life in the long run. “Without such safety and trust, children’s brains do not grow and organize optimally.”

Kaylee’s Behavior Change

Despite the fact that many thought Ally was taking things too far, Kaylee changed dramatically. She made an effort to be nicer to the people around her and became best friends with the girl she had apologised to. Ally’s lesson had indeed worked wonders.

A United Family

Even though Ally was not Kaylee’s biological mother, the family stood united on the issue. Kaylee’s dad supported Ally fully in the matter and stood by her as she taught the little girl a lesson. “For us, we really feel like this was the best idea and the best solution for Kaylee to be the best person she could be.”
