There have been times when you have been in mortal danger and your pet has come to your rescue. If this has happened in your life, then you should reciprocate this favor. There are times when the pet or the owner have placed their companion as top priority. Such sacrificial love goes a long way and this loyalty towards each other is simply remarkable. But if situation arises, will you be the first in line for defending your pet from a predator? Well, for Cecilia Celis, this was the only way to save her pet, Lulu –

1. The Girl Who Risked Her Life To Save Her Pup

15-year old teenager, Cecelia Celis was cooking tacos in her Las Vegas residence. The family owned a 2-lb Yorkshire Terrier puppy called Lulu. As evident from the pictures, Cecilia was quite attached to it. In fact, the incident that followed showed how protective Cecilia was towards Lulu. In fact, she could go any length to save her.

2. The Fateful Incident Happened On A Friday

Lulu was enjoying herself in the company of her second Yorkshire puppy. The family had brought Lulu sometime back. The dogs in the Celis family were treated just like family. Cecelia was cooking tacos in her kitchen, inside the house, when all of a sudden, she heard her dogs barking excitedly. The dogs were playing in the lawn outside. When she went outside to check on them, she came across a horrific sight.

3. Her Dogs Were Under Attack By A Hawk

Cecelia told a KSNV reporter “I just look outside. We see a huge bird fly up, and I yell at the bird, ‘Get off my dog! Get off my dog!’ ” The bird was a large hawk that had swooped down on Lulu and secured its talons on the dog’s spine. It was trying to fly away with the dog. The hawk was looking for a quick meal, but destiny had other plans.

4. Cecilia Reacted In A Split Second To Save Her Pet

Due to her quick reflexes, Cecilia reacted within seconds. She yelled out at the hawk expecting it to get frightened. When the bird did not budge, she charged at it with a pillow in her hand. But was being armed with a cushion enough to save her dog from the grip of such a dangerous predator? Let’s find out what happened next.

5. Adverse Situations Bring Out The Courage In A Person

Normally, many soft blokes do not like to hurt anyone. They prefer peace over everything else. Cecilia was a person who rarely hurt animals. But when the situation arises, people like Cecilia go all the way to save their loved ones. She started to hit the hawk with a pillow. Once, twice, thrice…on the third hit, the hawk let go of Lulu. But was Lulu safe now?

6. With Death Staring Right In Her Face, Lulu Had Faced Quite An Ordeal

Finally, after multiple pillow strikes, the hawk flew away, leaving away its dinner. Lulu had survived the ordeal with some puncture wounds. But they were not deep ones. In the encounter, the pillow was ripped because the hawk had ripped one of its corners. The hawk was also not injured. It managed to get away with a few ruffled feathers.

7. We Wish Lulu For A Speedy Recovery

One can only hope that Lulu has a speedy recovery. Though the physical scars might heal, the mental trauma inflicted on the dog was overwhelming. Let’s hope that nothing of this kind happens with the canine anytime in the future. Although domestic animals get a chance to thrive in tamed surroundings, the harshness of the wild is a truth one cannot ignore. These two have co-existed from time umpteenth and it shall continue to be so.

8. These Dangerous Predatory Incidents Are Quite Common

Incidents like these do not come to the fore. But out of those that manage to, show that survival rates are quite slim. Many American residents have reported that large, predatory creatures have carried off with their pets. Most of these incidents have occurred in homes that are adjacent to wild enclosures like jungles and mountains. In such unfortunate events, vultures, hawks, cougars, mountain lions are the infamous villains.

9. Why Do Such Incidents Occur?

Apart from having their homes near the wild, there are other reasons for such happenings. Many people have a habit of feeding birds and deer. These animals, in turn, attract predators like lions and vultures. Moreover, people in the outskirts have a habit of keeping cattle. These are easy pickings for a wild animal.

10. Lulu Is Lucky To Be Alive

If it had been a vulture instead of a hawk, then the wounds would not have been so minor. Vultures have sharper and stronger beaks, coupled with mighty talons. It would have made a short work of the Yorkshire terrier. Lulu is lucky to have such a brave owner who was ready to risk it all, just for the safety of her pet.

11. What Should You Do To Ensure Safety Of Your Pets

You can cover the open spaces in your home with fake enclosures. A strong net or a perforated grill structure would keep the aerial predators at bay. For keeping wilderness on the ground out of bounds, you should double check for gaps in your fence. Coyotes have been known for sneaking in fence gaps and making off with your pets. Wiring around the perimeter of your house also seems to be a sound remedy.

12. Keep Bigger Pets In Your Home As Well

If you have smaller or infant pets, it is better to have bigger pets like Great Danes or Huskies near them. Bulldogs, bull hounds or bull terriers also scare off predators. If there are cougars or lions prowling near your property, then it is better to keep a gun handy. You might need the firepower, just in case.
